Buenezas was born out of a curiosity to reconnect and nurture relationships with nature, ourselves, and our human and non-human neighbors.

The project began in Little Haiti, Miami, where artist and outdoor educator Gabi Serra led a community garden and nursery. The focus was to learn together how to grow food and tropical plants that brought our diasporic community closer to home, while observing, feeling, and learning from the vast wisdom that exists all around us—full of spontaneity, interconnection, and magical interactions.

Today, Buenezas is a mobile initiative that curates intergenerational, nature-centered learning experiences informed by ecology, art, and community care. We bring plants to you, or we bring you outdoors.

Our work includes curriculum development, workshops, and site-responsive experiences that connect creative learning to local ecosystems and cultural contexts across diverse environments.

We recognize the isolation many of us experience living in cities—the separation from ourselves, from one another, and from the natural world, as well as the effects of prolonged screen time. We believe in the importance of knowing and naming plants, so that invaluable knowledge can continue to be shared across generations.

We create spaces for storytelling, observation, play, and creativity as ways of reconnecting with ourselves and the world around us.

Art is an essential part of our work. We believe in its power to teach us how to be playful, how to solve problems, how to see things differently, and how to appreciate the beauty in others and in the world around us.
